We made it 1 week!!

Madison was 1 week old on Saturday. Everyone is so right, time sure flies! I can not believe that over a week ago she was still in my belly!! Wow!
The first week went very well! Pat and I did a whole lot of nothing all week and it was great. Towards the end of the week I was a little crazy in the house…so we had our adventures out and about. Maddie officially loves Target! We went there and she was so good…her 1st store, Target, of course!!
We went to the lactation consult on Thursday and they were a little cautious about her weight, she had dropped to 5lbs 14 oz. They did not like that she dropped a whole pound since she was born and she had not had a bowel movement since we left the hospital. So we had to go back on Friday to get her weighed again. When we got there the nurse asked if she had pooped, no she had not…so she sent us to the pediatrician, Dr. Buenger wanted to check her out to make sure her tummy was OK. Off to our 1st MD visit, it was unexpected…but it went well. I fed her while we were there and the MD had no concerns with her eating at that point…she just wanted to make sure she would poop. We were told to wake her every 2 hrs to feed her, just so she is for sure eating and her little bowels are moving! If she did not poop by Sunday, the MD wanted us to take her back to Sacred Heart Hospital to have her weighed and make sure the lactation lady watched me feed her, to make sure she was actually swallowing. The MD also said no stimulation on Saturday at all (which meant NO visitors) WHAT!? I thought, it was a Saturday and I could not go anywhere or have anyone come visit me?!?! What was I going to do? I know….spend the whole day with Maddie…lounging around! It was totally worth it! Saturday morning, Pat was out weeding the garden and I smelled something not normal! I checked Madison’s pants and yup and big poop!! YAY! I yelled for Pat and he did the “potty” dance!! It was hysterical! What will happen when she goes potty on the big girl potty for the 1st time? Oh geez!!! Then we made our calls to the grandma’s. It was very important that they knew their granddaughter had a poppy diaper!! Everyone was so happy!!! She was too! :)
Sunday we were both feeling better that she was eating better! So, we went on another adventure. We stopped at our friend Lisa’s house so Maddie could meet them and then went to my parents house for dinner! It was great to spend a couple hours away from home…I was definitely going a little stir crazy!
Today, it is Monday. I am on my own for the 1st time…and obviously it is going OK since I have a few minutes to write this blog!! Madison woke up after a good night’s sleep and she has been chilling with Bob and me! She loves her play pen and swing and of course my arms! I have been getting a couple things done around the house and at the moment I am waiting for the Charter man to come and install my new cable modem!!
I am looking forward to tomorrow, we go for Madison’s 1 week appointment…I am excited to see how much she weighs now! Hopefully she is gaining quickly! Next weekend will be my 1st Mother’s Day. We are spending Saturday with Grandpa Brad and Grandma Cheri and Aunt Nicki and Uncle Nathan, then on Sunday we will be with Grandma Jamie, Grandpa Curt, Aunt Betsy and Aunt Abby! It will be a fun filled family weekend!!!
I added a couple pictures of our little one…hope you enjoy them!!!

  3. who would have thought that a first poop would be so exciting. You ROCK Maddie.

Alexa, you and Pat are in for many first in your life. Enjoy each one because they go by so quickly. Guaranteed that come the first day of kindergarten that you will wonder, with tears in you eyes "where did the time go"
